If they all would have taken one together then it would have been a little better but they should of driven or flown commercial in the first place. Also they needed to be more organized. Going in to a meeting with people who are trying to save you company and you don’t know how they can help is just stupid.

Let the people who are really effected by this talk and let them help you convince people that you are worth saving.

Question 3- I would have them be semi visible. It’s nice to have a face to a company but you want the workers to be the face. At the same time you do want people knowing that upper management is doing something. I would have him do a couple of commercials and some speeches at stock holder’s meeting but make the workers the real face of your company.

Chapter 11 blog

Question 1: I do not think that Summers was too outspoken. He had a job to run the college in a way that he thought was best. Bringing in a proffesser to talk about how he can improve is not racist. He was just trying to do his job. The other comment was taken out of context and people over reacted.

Question 2: He was just stating a fact. There are not that many woman that are in those fields. There aren’t many white people in the NBA. Saying it is not racist its pointing out the facts. He did not mean for it to be taken that way but when you talk about sensitive subjects then you must be careful in how you word things.

Question 3: I believe it was wise for him to appolgize. Faculty have a huge impact on his job security and he had to make sure that they knew he wasn’t trying to attack them. He was just trying to make Harvard a better place and by doing so may have upset some people.

Question 2- I would suggest that he should keep a low profile. He doesn’t need to be in the media that much. What he should do is charity work. Like all charitable acts you shouldn’t do it for personal recondition but instead do it to make yourself feel better and help people.

If that is the case then suspend him for the first couple of games to make sure that he is truly serious about returning. Also you should tell him that one act of poor taste could result in explosion from the league completely.

Question 4- Regarding sponsors I would advise them to be very carful about sponsing him. It could be a great move if the public accepts him back but if they don’t then it will be an awful move. I would wait a couple of weeks and then I would see how the public receives him. Also you want to make sure that he has changed and will represent your product well.

Question 1

It has been said that good is the enemy of great.  Now this is a very common phrase and you all have probably heard it at some point in your life and just ignored it.  But as we gather here today we must realize that we have to be great.  For this company to succeed we all must overcome even our own expectations.  This is a tough time.  We all have been affected by the recent economic down turn.  But that is no reason to stop, it is more of a reason to push forward.  We must come together and work harder than ever.  We are doing everything we can from building new systems to getting a fresh prospective into this company.  That is not the only thing that we are doing.  Let it be known that this company is doing everything and anything to make sure we succeed and we want that attitude to funnel down to all levels.

Question 1

I would have advised HP to talk to the employees that were leaking the information and either fire them or punish them in some way.  You need to make sure that you do not do anything unethical as they have done.  You do not want to make your self look bad when you have done nothing wrong.  Probing for information by hiring spies is not ethical and turns the focus of the wrong doings of your employees and puts it back on the high ranking officals.

Question 2

I would have advised them to stop the activities and apologize to the employees who they were spying on.  Admit your mistake and tell the truth and you will be in less trouble then trying to cover it up.  When you lie and desceve people thats when you get in the most trouble.  I would issue a formal apology and make the person who was responsible step down.  You also have to make sure that the people involved know that it was a mistake.

Question 3

I would make sure that everyone that was involved left the company.  I would also make sure that everyone that comes in goes through a background check and takes some type of ethics test to see how they would deal with situations.  I would also make sure that who ever replaces the executives has a strong ethical track record and has a full understanding of their importance to the company.  Also a formal apology would be given to the employees and everyone else involved in the spying.

Question 2- The cornerstone would be the best unknown hospital.  Once you get to know us you will love us.  Use the fact that your unknown to your advantage.  Tell people to try out your hospital.

Question 3- I would accomplish this by getting a strong website.  Follow all the guidelines like easy to follow and not to complex.  Also a strong ad campaign is necessary.  You also have to make sure that your hospital is ready for an increase in patients.  If they are not then you should not be trying to grow.  Also you must ensure that nothing will change when more people come.

Question 4- To build support inside the hospital I would but the testimonies of the past patients in hallways.  It would not only build support in patents but also the employees will gain confidence as well.  Outside I would have strong advertisments all around town and also make sure the board and other adminstraters new what we were trying to accomplish

Question 5- I would use an internet survey with incentives.  Coupons or cash would work best to get people to take the survey to let us know how they feel about the area’s hospitals.  Also to see how our plan is working have the new patients fill out a survey and see why they decided to come to you hospital.  If it is because of the new communication strategies then you know that they are affective.

Chapter 3 blog

Question 1- Wal-mart had a few public relation options after the firing of Roehm.  They could have sent out a news release stating the details of her firing.  That will make it clear to everyone why she was fired and will also help to persuade people that the firing was just.  They could also get feedback from the groups they are targeting to see how they feel about the company.  It was obvious that the company was struggling in public opinion.

Question 2- I think that Wal-mart was smart to expose the affair.  It hurts her character and makes what she is saying less believable because she lied.  When someone’s character is hurt it can affect everything they say.  Also with a law suit of this magnatued it is important to know all the facts.  Wal-mart does not want to lose this case and they are doing everything possible to win it.

Question 3- It was very interesting how Wal-mart responded to the law suit.  By exposing her possible affair it takes the attention off of the company and puts in on Roehm.  This can be good because it makes her look like a bad person and it gives the firing more validity.  At the same time it makes it look like the company is trying to spear its opponent.  It’s the same idea that politicians use in elections.  They are trying to persuade the people that their opponent is worse than them.

Question 4- I do not agree that it will poison the atmosphere.  I believe that Wal-mart had every right to fire Roehm.  She broke the law.  If that was explained to any future employees any problems will be take care of.  Wal-mart is a huge corporation and people will still want to work for them.  This incident does not have enough problems to discourage people from that.

Question 5-I think that Wal-mart needs to resolve the problem as soon as possible.  The last thing they need is for it to drag on for months.  The best thing to do is settle it out of court and get it out of the media.  After awhile the public will forget about it.  The more publicity it gets the worse it will get.  With all the other suits that are taking place the last thing they need is for this to drag on.
